Year 7 — Spanish

Term 1 and Term 2: Mi vida

In Module 1, students will begin their journey into Spanish by focusing on pronunciation and basic self-introduction skills. They will learn how to introduce themselves and describe their personality using adjectives that end in "-i." The module will also cover essential vocabulary related to age, family members like brothers and sisters, and pets, using the verb "tener" (to have). Additionally, students will practice saying their birthday, incorporate numbers and the alphabet into their conversations, and ensure that adjectives agree with nouns. This foundational module will help students build confidence in speaking Spanish and understanding key grammatical concepts.

Students will be assessed on their reading skills by understanding passages about various free-time activities and hobbies, then answer questions to demonstrate their understanding of the texts. For the speaking Assessment Students will discuss their own leisure activities, sports, and hobbies, describing what they like to do and how they spend their free time. They should use clear and accurate language to express their ideas.

Term 3: Mi tiempo libre

Students will learn to express what they enjoy doing by using “Me gusta” plus an infinitive verb. They will practice talking about their hobbies and activities in their free time using the present tense. Additionally, they will learn to discuss the weather using “cuando” and describe various sports and activities, employing the verbs “hacer” and “jugar” to differentiate between different types of activities

For the speaking assessment students will discuss their own leisure activities, sports, and hobbies, describing what they like to do and how they spend their free time. Term 4: Mi Insti

Students will learn to talk about their school subjects and express their opinions on them. They will be able to describe what subjects they study and use vocabulary related to school. Additionally, students will practice discussing their daily school routines and preferences regarding their classes. This module aims to build their ability to communicate effectively about their school experience in Spanish.

Students will be assessed on their listening skills by understanding details about school subjects, opinions, and school descriptions. They will be assessed on their writing skills by describing their school, including subjects they study, their opinions, and details about their school environment, using appropriate vocabulary and clear descriptions.

Term 5: Mi Familia y Mis Amigos

Students will learn to describe their family and friends using possessive adjectives and vocabulary related to physical appearance, such as hair and eye color. They will use the verb "ser" to describe what people look like and practice describing where they live using the verb "estar." This module focuses on helping students effectively communicate details about their family and friends in Spanish.

Students will be assessed on their reading skills by understanding texts that describe family members, friends, physical appearance, and living situations. They will be assessed on their speaking skills by describing their own family, their physical traits, and where they live, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.

Term 6: Mi ciudad

Mi Ciudad, students will learn to describe their town or village, including giving directions and discussing local amenities. They will practice telling the time and describing their daily activities, such as what they are currently doing or planning to do. Additionally, students will learn how to order food in a café and talk about their weekend plans. They will also practice understanding descriptions of towns and cities from others.

For the listening assessment students will be assessed on understanding descriptions of towns, activities, and ordering in a café. For the writing assessment students will be assessed on describing their town, what they do, and their weekend plans, using the verb "querer" and the near future tense.
